From the very announcement Homefront developers from Kaos Studios opposed their brainchild Call of Duty. They say that “Call of Duty” is pseudo-realistic nonsense, but Homefront – that’s a completely different conversation. Here we seem to be waiting for an extremely plausible story of ordinary American soldiers – without gloss and special effects. Well, let’s check how it really turned out.
“If you’re going to San Francisco…”
The near future of the USA according to Kaos looks bleak. The head of the DPRK Kim Jong Il died, and his son Kim Jong Un took his place. North Korea united with South Korea, and in 2027, the Great Korean Republic without thinking twice took over the States.
This, in fact, is where the story of the “common American soldier” Jacobs begins. More precisely, not an ordinary one, but a former Air Force pilot who was lucky enough to get into the ranks of the partisans from the city of Montrose.
From the first minutes of the adventure, the creators try to show us the horrors of the occupation. Evil Asians drag the main character out of a dirty apartment, put him on a school bus and take him to correctional labor. We turn to the window and see some poor fellows being beaten with rifle butts by Korean scoundrels, and his parents being shot in front of a child… It’s a good start. Turn up the heat and you get a convincing picture of the nightmares of a brutal regime.
But they won’t give in to the heat. During the three-hour “single” we will witness a couple more similar scenes, no more. The characters of Jacobs’ partners are not revealed at all. One moment our sister-in-arms Rihanna was sobbing over the corpses of her loved ones, and half an hour later – as if nothing had happened, she was cheerfully shooting yellow-faced enemies.
In addition, everything that happens in Homefront, – alien to us, Russian people. After all, our partisans spend most of the journey in a fairly detailed recreation American suburb. It is not surprising that the Western press received the game more warmly than the European one. It seems to me that all these orderly rows of two-story houses, broken garden gnomes in the courtyards and abandoned fields produce about the same impression on the native inhabitants of the United States as the view of destroyed Moscow from Metro 2033 on us.
Finally, the idiotic Radio Liberty completes the half-dead drama by turning on its propaganda organ during downloads. Primordial pathos in the most indigestible form is delivered in trucks – if your ears suddenly start bleeding, remember: we warned you..
Not Call of Duty? Seriously?
“Okay,” we think, “since there is no smell of any depth, then maybe it’s a “simple story” is being played not like CoD?" Indeed, when the authors say that their brainchild will be naturalistic, you hope for the corresponding process. Something like ArmA 2 immediately comes to mind, only on a more modest scale. A small number of enemies, tactics, death from one well-aimed shot – in general, you get the idea.
But here too there is deception. In front of us is a typical shooting gallery with dozens, hundreds of stupid opponents, “ducks”, who were hastily trained to hide behind covers and throw grenades. You can’t find any differences from “Call of Duty” even with a magnifying glass – except that the weapon looks and sounds worse. The American partisans, of course, are great, but it’s hard to believe that each of them can finish off a thousand or two Koreans almost single-handedly. So realism in Homefront and didn’t spend the night.
Unlike Modern Warfare and casinomagicwin.uk Black Ops, however, there are very few spectacular scenes and interesting situations here, and some of those that exist are shamelessly stolen from Infinity Ward. For example, a foray into a camp of aggressive survivalists is exactly the same as the mission in Pripyat from MW, but poorly staged and drawn out. Dreary flights on a combat helicopter and meetings at stationary “guns”, of course, are also available. Well, as long as you can already.
Homefront: Fuel of War
However, the single-player campaign is not the main thing, as advocates say Homefront. Well, maybe multiplayer will really pull the game out of the swamp of pass-through projects?
Network entertainment is organized as usual – we take part in battles, grow in levels, unlock new machine guns and machine guns, as well as skills and other useful things. They have prepared five template classes for us, but no one is stopping us from completely changing them and renaming them. In short, the system is approximately the same as in Modern Warfare 2. Team interaction, by the way, is stuck not far from the “Call of Duty”: doctors or engineers in Homefront you will not meet – everyone is on their own.
Is creation capable Kaos beat down your competitors? Unfortunately no. Let’s say that in the variety of unlockable goodies, multiplayer fun is significantly inferior to Black Ops – there is a catastrophic lack of “trunks”, there is no extravaganza of stripes, nicknames, camouflages and other pleasant little things. And, in fact, there are only two modes – “Team Battle” and “Territory Control”. Not enough content for an action movie that focuses on online battles, isn’t it??
Tries Homefront overcome and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. She probably looks decent on this field? Alas, this is a failure too. Although the maps are indeed noticeably larger than in Black Ops, the scale is still not the same as in Battlefield. And there is no destructibility – the main trump card of BC2. Just imagine how the equipment feels in such conditions, if you also take into account that some locations are urban. Here a tank stuck between two millimeter-thick fences is a common sight.
And this is partly why local equipment drops by here with bird’s rights – they don’t appear at the base. We can only, by paying a certain amount of points received for killings or other useful actions, be reborn, for example, in a jeep. Moreover, battle participants rarely squander their earned points on cheap body armor, grenade launchers or UAVs. As a result, many victories are won exclusively by infantry and remote-controlled little guys – no one needs expensive and clumsy machines.
The result is sad, but predictable – Kaos I wanted to make my own CoD, and decided to sell it under the guise of a naturalistic history of the US occupation. It didn’t turn out very well, as you can see. If Homefront and it’s worth buying, it’s only for the sake of multiplayer games. However, we would advise you to put aside your hard earned money for something more interesting. At least for Crysis 2 – its authors at least had enough strength to come up with something of their own, and not just borrow the ideas of their colleagues.
Pros: The network mode is interesting..
Cons: …the first two hours; secondary "single"; lousy plot, full of pathos.

Personally, I would just throw it in the trash. yes, I haven’t seen multiplayer, but I doubt that it can offer something that is not in the code or BF and in a better form than theirs. I sincerely hoped that there would be something sensible, but in the end it was outright garbage, whose company I don’t even want to waste time on
I completely disagree about the crisis, they didn’t come up with anything except the plot, everything, as they said above, was licked with halo. As for the game itself, dalba is commendable. The plot I agree sucks bullshit. As for the multiplayer, when I bought the game, installed it and started playing on the grid, I thought at first that the game sucked, but after playing it for 8 hours, my opinion changed, this game is better than what is currently on the market of multiplayer games (yes, yes, I have both the code and the battles, but they were not even close to the home front) when you get used to the controls, the game just injects hellish adrenaline into the blood, especially air battles and technical battles are also coolly done in You won’t see anything like this in battle, which is very sad when you sit in a vehicle, you get the feeling that you are really driving real equipment and you are bringing real benefit to your team (which was not the case in the battle because of the wretchedness of the equipment, I generally keep quiet about the code 🙂 ).It’s sad to see how the site gives good projects a bad rating, but homosexual games that really suck are given amazing ratings (if this continues, then this site will turn into a gambling addiction that they paid for and they will say that this is a really cool game.
P.WITH. I only talked about multiplayer about the equipment, but all the sensations can’t be expressed in words, it’s necessary to play infantry warfare, a different story, but also everything is thought out to the details. And if it comes down to it, the poor company plagiarized half of the goodies from the front line, download it, play and you will understand that this is the same BC. As for the destruction in BC2, they get boring after 2 weeks of playing and begin to irritate (when everyone is gouged at your base, you respawn and the snipers shoot your entire team).
delphinus, everyone has their own priorities. Personally, multiplayer doesn’t appeal to me at all. Is it interesting to run, track and stick a knife under the liver in AC:BH)))) But in FPS, I personally am only interested in single player, which in Homefront is simply pathetic.
P.S. pirates nowadays are downloaded from torrents, not bought xD
I just saw the review – it’s all a lie (I mean the review). The pathos is appropriate here, the graphics are good, there is also the drama of everything that happens (I don’t want to say what it involves – spoiler), the arsenal is small, but not small either.
I absolutely agree with the assessment, it’s just a pity that the review is a little late 🙁 otherwise I bought it and regretted it!
If only they had done something with the plot. They stretched it out, but they would have made more heartbreaking moments, I would have played. And so… In general, I fully support the assessment.
hmm I agree, I really liked it at the end, namely the helicopter ride and after that I even hoped that this was at least the middle of the game, but it turned out to be the end (((
I didn’t even have enough for a single, I regretted spending my earnings from the 1st mission… but I could have enjoyed ACB or Crysis 2. but what an advertising campaign it was..
Having played the single yesterday, I can unreservedly agree with the assessment. I made a few observations for myself. At first I was perplexed (and even now I can’t wrap my head around it) – HOW can you combine the sky-high requirements of the CRISIS level and the poor graphics of the year 2002 so as not to lie. Evaluated by projects Half-life 2 and F.E.A.R. 2004 and 2005 respectively t.e. according to engines relevant for their time. For 5 minutes I hoped that now, a little more, I would see what I was waiting for, namely, similarity to battlefield and graphics for which in 2011 I would not be ashamed. The only thing I saw that was worthy was the scene of an execution in front of a child. There are lags, the graphics suck. However, an oxymoron.
how everyone was promoting this game, it’s like the game will be better than the code, I bought it and now I regret that I bought it, because I’ve never played such a trash shooter before.According to the systems, the game asks a lot, but it doesn’t export.
yes, the only thing the game has going for it is similar “mini-scenes”, which unfortunately are too few for an occupation of this scale.
No No No..
The game is boring and drawn out, the conversations in front of the door are especially pleasing, there is a war on the street for a minute blah blah about nothing
Throughout, there were not even references, but rip-offs from Half-life 2. The first is a handful of resistance against the military machine that is crushing everything, which in the end turns out to be in complete… well, you get the idea. Second – Rihanna. Has anyone looked at her figure?? I don’t know about you, but I saw jeans like this with a belt like this on Alice Vance. It’s true that Rihanna’s bumper is stronger, and the cellulite on her stomach is visible. The third and biggest thing – well, for fuck’s sake, a mission on a bridge, clearing the supports and running along the floors under the bridge while a helicopter fires at you from both sides – this is exactly like in Half-life 2, those who played will agree with me. Bottom line, everything has already been said in the assessment. Oh yes – THIS place only belongs in the trash.
I apologize in advance for minor mistakes in spelling. Next time I’ll check before sending.
